Mansion Sports – Liverpool manager Arne Slot has chosen to remain tight-lipped regarding speculation that his team is pursuing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak ahead of their highly anticipated clash at St James’ Park on Monday.

Transfer rumors surrounding the Swedish forward have dominated headlines throughout the summer window. 

Isak is reported to have refused to play for Newcastle, while Liverpool has yet to return with a fresh offer following their previous bid of £110 million three weeks ago. Slot acknowledged that the matter remains one of the hottest topics in football at the moment.

Isak Wants Liverpool Move, Newcastle Standing Firm

Isak has publicly expressed his desire to join Liverpool, even posting an emotional message alluding to a “broken promise.”

Newcastle, however, responded firmly, insisting that they would not allow their star striker to leave so easily.

As a result, The Magpies have been without Isak, who scored 25 goals across all competitions last season. 

The club has also yet to secure a replacement of equal caliber, adding further uncertainty to their attacking options.

Slot’s Response: Focus on Current Squad

When asked directly about Liverpool’s chances of signing Isak, Slot offered a brief reply and avoided adding fuel to the speculation.

“There is not much I can say. If anyone else asked the same question, my answer would be no different. As I mentioned last Friday, it was clear that I could influence the match with the players already on the bench. Federico came in and scored. So, I believe it is better to talk about the players we already have in the squad, even though I understand why you must ask about this,” Slot explained.

Newcastle Under Mounting Pressure

The situation has placed Newcastle under significant strain, particularly as their goal-scoring form has faltered.

After scoring 21 goals in their previous eight matches, they have now gone three consecutive Premier League games without finding the net.

The challenge becomes even tougher as they prepare to face a resurgent Liverpool side in strong form.
