Mansion Sports - The uncertainty surrounding Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid has intensified amid growing interest from Premier League giants Manchester City and Liverpool. 

The Brazilian winger has faced an unsettled role at Santiago Bernabéu since Xabi Alonso took charge as manager.

In Madrid’s La Liga season opener against Osasuna, Rodrygo was left on the bench for the entire match, fueling speculation about his possible departure. 

According to journalist Jorge Nicola, the 24-year-old is edging closer to leaving Spain this summer, with both Liverpool and City locked in a fierce battle for his signature.

Manchester City Maintain Strong Interest

Nicola reported that Pep Guardiola remains highly interested in acquiring Rodrygo as part of his attacking plans. 

However, a potential move to the Etihad Stadium hinges on the departure of Savinho, who has been strongly linked with a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur this summer. 

This dependency means that City’s pursuit of Rodrygo may still be shaped by developments in other transfer dealings.

Liverpool Enter the Race to Replace Luis Díaz

Meanwhile, Liverpool have stepped firmly into the race, identifying Rodrygo as a direct replacement for Luis Díaz, who completed a move to Bayern Munich earlier in the transfer window. 

By targeting Rodrygo as a priority signing, the Merseyside club has signaled its serious intent to reinforce its wide attacking options.

Alonso Explains Rodrygo’s Absence Against Osasuna

Xabi Alonso addressed the situation after choosing not to play Rodrygo in the match against Osasuna. Speaking in his post-match interview, the Madrid manager explained:
“Rodrygo? Nothing has happened. Of course, I count on Rodrygo. It was just about this particular match. That was my decision.”

His remarks suggested that Rodrygo’s exclusion was purely tactical and not the result of personal issues, although speculation over the player’s role in the squad persists.

Transfer Fee and Future Prospects

Rodrygo remains under contract with Real Madrid until 2028, giving the club a strong negotiating position. 

Los Blancos have previously insisted they are not in a rush to sell, setting a valuation of €100 million (£86 million/$116 million) for any potential suitors.
