Napoli Open Talks to Sign Rasmus Højlund

Napoli Open Talks to Sign Rasmus Højlund

Mansion Sports - Napoli have initiated transfer discussions with Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund as part of their efforts to find a replacement for the injured Romelu Lukaku.

The Serie A side has identified the Danish forward as a primary target, particularly as he no longer appears to be central to United manager Amorim’s plans following the arrival of Benjamin Šeško.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Napoli have held positive talks with Højlund’s representatives, with the player himself open to a return to Italy.

However, Højlund has set out clear conditions, including assurances of a long-term commitment rather than a short-term loan deal.

Negotiations between the two clubs remain ongoing, with United reportedly willing to part ways with the striker, who has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s Loan Proposal with Buy Option

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport has reported that United are prepared to sanction a loan move for Højlund, demanding an initial fee of around €5–6 million, coupled with a purchase option in the range of €35–40 million (£30–34.5 million/$40–47 million).

AC Milan are also said to be monitoring the situation, joining Napoli in the race for the 22-year-old forward.

Contract Situation and Mixed Performances in England

United initially tied Højlund to a long-term contract running until 2028 after securing his services from Atalanta in 2023, with an additional one-year extension option included.

Despite high expectations, his performances in England have left much to be desired. Last season, Højlund managed only 10 goals across 52 appearances, prompting questions about his ability to adapt and thrive in the Premier League.

United’s Determination to Bounce Back

United’s renewed push in the transfer market comes on the back of a disappointing opening-day defeat at home to Arsenal.

Under manager Amorim, the Italian club is determined to recover quickly as they prepare to face Fulham on Sunday.

Securing attacking reinforcements has become a priority, with Højlund seen as a potential catalyst to strengthen their forward line.

A Crucial Juncture for Højlund’s Career

The ongoing negotiations could mark a defining chapter in Højlund’s career. For Napoli, it represents an opportunity to bolster their attacking options ahead of a demanding Serie A campaign, while for the young Danish striker, a move back to Italy could provide the platform to revive his form and establish himself as a long-term asset in European football.
