Thomas Muller Compares Michael Olise to Franck Ribery
Mansion Sports - Michael Olise has been tipped as a future leader at Bayern Munich after club legend Thomas Muller drew comparisons between the French-born winger and the iconic Franck Ribery.
In an interview with Sport Bild, Muller described Olise as “a top-class Bayern player” and emphasized that the former Crystal Palace midfielder possesses the qualities needed to guide the team in the coming years.
According to Muller, Olise demonstrates confidence and a willingness to take responsibility on the pitch, even without being an outspoken figure.
Olise’s Early Journey at Bayern Munich
Olise officially joined Bayern Munich last summer from Crystal Palace in a transfer worth approximately €60 million (£51 million/$65 million), signing a long-term deal until June 2029.
His debut season in Germany was nothing short of outstanding. Olise recorded 17 goals and 17 assists while also securing his first major trophy with the club by winning the Bundesliga title. These achievements quickly cemented his status as one of the most influential players in the Die Roten squad.
Muller: Olise Can Follow in Ribery’s Footsteps
Muller, who recently departed Bayern to continue his career in Major League Soccer with the Vancouver Whitecaps after 25 years at the club, insisted that his exit will not leave a leadership void in Munich.
He highlighted Aleksandar Pavlovic and Josip Stanisic as players capable of carrying Bayern’s identity forward but reserved his highest praise for Olise.
“He can be the player who leads Bayern into the future, just as Franck Ribery did during my era,” Muller stated.
“Olise clearly has the attitude of: ‘Give me the ball, I will finish it!’ That is a form of leadership without needing many words.”
A Central Role in the New Season
After helping Bayern lift the German Super Cup with a victory over Stuttgart, Olise is expected to once again play a central role in the attack as the Bundesliga kicks off on August 22 against RB Leipzig.
Bayern supporters are eager to see whether the 23-year-old can maintain his exceptional form from his debut campaign and live up to the lofty expectations set by Thomas Muller’s endorsement.
